From April 9-12 and on April 16, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District hosted their annual Bowl for Kids Sake. This event is the agency’s largest fundraiser, and it’s also a time when the community comes along side this organization to show their support for the great work they do.

“As our supporters and the broader community knows, our agency has and will continue to do whatever we can to provide the highest quality programs and services to those young people that need it most,” says James Maxwell, executive director of BBBS Orillia. “Our participants believe in supporting good causes that create strong, healthy communities for children. In order to sustain our current level of commitment to these children and youth, we are relying now more than ever for our community to get behind us with their participation and financial support.”

The “Rock n Bowl” themed event created the opportunity for up to 80 teams to participate in a fun and energy-filled event.

“Over the five-day event we had 70 teams – the highest number of teams to participate – come out to enjoy hours of fun and laughter with family and friends all in support of the agency,” says Amanda Tevelde, marketing and communications coordinator for the agency. “After reconciling the online pledges the event raised a total of $35,600, just $4,400 away from our goal! For those who were unable to join us at Bowl for Kids Sake there is still time to help us reach our goal.”

“For the past five years BBBS Orillia has hosted a WestJet raffle along side the BFKS where community members can purchase a $20 raffle ticket for the chance to win airfare for two courtesy of WestJet Cares, with the odds being one in 550 of winning. This year is no exception! The agency has WestJet raffle tickets available to purchase for $20. With only 550 available, someone in our community will fly away a winner!” said Tevelde.

WestJet tickets are available for purchase until April 26 with the draw taking place on April 27 at 11 a.m. To purchase a WestJet raffle ticket or to make a donation, please call the office, 705-325-3151, or stop by the BBBS office at 17 Colborne St. E., Unit 102.

In other exciting news the Orillia Kiwanis Club presented a $10,000 contribution towards all the programs the agency provides to over 360 local child and youth.

Every dollar contributed to the agency stays within the local community, helping children in need.
