BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF ORILLIA AND DISTRICT
—
The 2022 Walk for Kids’ Sake is a way for participants to get out of the house, to run, walk, or otherwise ‘move’ for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District.
This event will take place at Tudhope Park on Saturday, Nov. 12 and they are striving to raise $10,000 to support youth in the community.
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and funds, in which 100 per cent of the proceeds go to supporting youth in our community through our community and school-based mentoring programs.
Registration is free for participants. However, individuals are encouraged to raise funds through pledges from their friends, family and the local community.
“I would like to say thank you for considering to support us here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District (BBBSOD). With the continued support for our cause and the generous monetary donations, it’s support like this that helps to make big changes in our local community,” said Amanda Zummach, fundraising and community development co-ordinator.
“We are hoping to make it more common knowledge that BBBSOD relies deeply on our fundraising events, such as Walk for Kids’ Sake, due to the fact that we are not government funded. Each dollar donated to support BBBSOD has a $23 return on investment through improved economic, health, and social outcomes for young people with mentors. When we have healthy, happy young people in our communities, everyone benefits,” said Zummach.
Walk for Kids’ Sake is an event that aims to help support the vital mentoring programs provided by BBBSOD. For registration and sponsorship opportunities please visit www.bbbsorillia.ca/walkforkidssake or call us at 705-325-3151.
Through mentorship, Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a caring and consistent adult who builds a safe and trusting relationship that can enable young people to thrive, despite the challenges they face. BBBSOD is a no-cost community program for young people who can benefit from an additional consistent relationship with an adult.
BBBSOD has been in the community since 1966 and offers community and school-based programs, such as in-school mentoring, Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, Game On! Eat Smart, Play Smart, Live Smart. BBBSOD’s mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. The agency is a registered charity recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency.
