As COVID-19 continues to impact our community, we have made some adjustments to ensure the safety of all of our clients, volunteers, staff, and stakeholders.

Effective March 16 2020, we have closed our doors until further notice.

Fear not! BBBS Orillia staff members are continuing to ignite potential from home!

What does this mean for current community based matches?

As per our national standards, matches are now required to practice social distancing and refrain from seeing each other in person until May 1 2020, or until instructed otherwise. We understand that this could impact both mentee and mentor, so we strongly encourage matches to continue to keep in touch from a distance! Matches can visit our Facebook and Instagram pages for activity ideas to maintain their friendship while staying safe. Ideas are posted daily, so make sure to follow us and turn on notifications to get all of the latest information!

Match check-ins will still happen as per our match check-in schedule, and you will be contacted by our Mentoring Coordinator to complete these check-ins. If you have an in-person check-in approaching, you have the opportunity to do this virtually over Zoom!

What does this mean for in-school matches?

Since the schools we serve are also closed due to COVID-19, in school matches are unable to meet. At this time, we are not encouraging in-school mentors to reach out to their mentees as that friendship is meant for in-school only. We will let you know if this changes! In-school matches are not to resume until May 1 2020, even if schools re-open before then. In-school mentors will be instructed on how to jump back into their matches when more information becomes available.

What does this mean for clients and volunteers in the process of finding a match?

As staff are continuing to work from home, all applications will continue to be processed, and applicants will receive an update on their application when it becomes available. If any training is required, applicants will have the opportunity to do a Zoom training from the comfort of their own home! Staff will contact applicants to arrange a date and time for Zoom training. Match introductions will not happen until it is safe to resume in-person activities.

What does this mean for prospective applicants?

If you are thinking about applying to be a Big/Little Brother or Big/Little Sister, applications are still open! Applicants can still apply online, and will be contacted by our Intake Coordinator. Both volunteer and family applicants have the opportunity to do their interview and training via Zoom. If you are thinking about becoming a part of our program, you are encouraged to apply!

What does this mean for Bowl for Kids’ Sake?

Our Bowl for Kids’ Sake event has been rescheduled to May 25-28 at Orillia Bowl, and May 31-June 1 at the Coldwater Bowling Centre! If you already put in a team, your place has been held for our May event! Registration for BFKS is still open here. If you are looking to sponsor the event, you may refer to our sponsorship form here.

Do you need to get in contact with a staff member?
